• Mezze maniche, literally “short sleeves”
• Paccheri, a Neapolitan word literally meaning “slaps”
• Bucatini, literally “little holed ones”
• Vermicelli, literally “little worms”
• Farfalle, literally “butterflies”
• Orecchiette, literally “small ears”
• Ditalini, literally “thimbles” (but vulgarly “act of fingering”)
• Conchiglie “shells”, conchiglioni “big shells”
