So I just called CVS and they said I’m getting a generic epipen for $300 tomorrow, and since it’s generic there are no coupons or assistance for it.
For background, I need an epipen because I’m allergic to sulfa drugs (i get hives), and sulfa drugs are the only treatment for idiopathic intracranial hypertension, which is affecting my vision. My neurologist and I talked it over and he convinced me that it’s worth the risk, especially since I’m already on three allergy meds, but I need an epipen just in case my reaction ends up being more severe. I was supposed to start my course days ago but I’m waiting on my epinephrine.
More background: Maryland’s Medicaid does not cover epipens. Which is bullshit.
More more background: Epipens the brand are hella expensive despite the fact that they cost like twenty dollars to make. Because of capitalism. So $300 dollars is comparatively cheap.
Except I don’t have $300 dollars to spare.
Another fun fact: All three of my animals have fleas, and their meds are expensive too.
So if you can please spare a few dollars, my roommate’s PayPal is jason_kallgren@hotmail.com and all money will go to making up the cost for all of our meds
It just pisses me off that live-saving medicine costs 300 dollars at its cheapest. It’s obscene. I can’t even joke that that it’s almost like they want to kill us all off, because that’s exactly what they want to do.
Even with GoodRX, an amazing coupon site for medication, the cheapest you can find is $147.94.
It’s fucking ridiculous and explicitly meant to deny poor people access to life-saving measures
It really is. And most people don’t know about GoodRX, too. It’s pure exploitation.
I’m really appreciative of the notes and super appreciative of whoever gave me five dollars, but that’s all I’ve received in donations so far and I pick up the pen today, and the flea meds. We can pay for the pen with what we have, and we were always going to be able to pick up the flea meds until now, but it’ll take a chunk out of our rent and food budget that we need help making up, so any help you can offer I will be incredibly grateful for, even if it’s just reblogging this some more
