I read there should be a balance between slow and fast moves, so that the animation doesn’t get boring or unnatural looking, also some places where the eye can rest on. Tried to follow the advice here.
I’m also starting to animate in a mix of pose to pose and straight ahead, doing the main action pose to pose and ajust little movements like the tail straight ahead afterwards. It’s a nice method because it brings spontaneity and fun into the animation but still has a main flow and focus.
Last year for Christmas my mom bought me a throw pillow with Alexander Hamilton wearing a flower crown and the phrase “Listen up 5s, a 10 is speaking.” She didn’t understand it but instinctively knew I would love it. It was also coincidentally the last present opened of the morning, so everyone was watching me (my parents, brother, husband, three aunts, and one uncle). I was surprised and delighted, but they were wildly confused, even when I tried to explain it. Because honestly, how do you explain that many layers to non-internet people?
It’s like the time a former boss called asking about “what’s the latest dank meme the kids are into” for a thing she was trying to do and I had to tell her that the hot thing was iambic pentameter poetry about cows licking bread.
