Help Goosey Afford Mega Colon Surgery
In October 2017, Goosey was very sick, so sick that we thought he had to be put down. However he ended up making a miraculous recovery, that came with a price. Goosey has very weakened intestines and it is very difficult and painful for him to have a bowel movement. Every few months he has to go into the vet for enemas and scans to make sure he’s getting it all cleared out. He was doing well with that, plus medications and special food. However, things have gotten worse.
These complications are more frequent and he is in severe pain and we’re having to take him more frequently to the vet for enemas and procedures. He is still young (only five) and he has so much life left in him. It pains me to see him suffering so much, however when he’s in the clear, he is like a totally different cat – happy, alert, playful. He wants a fighting chance.
There is a solution to this – intestinal surgery. He has what is called ‘megacolon’ which is when the intestines are very, very weak. The surgery would involve removing part of his colon, making it easier for him to have bowel movements and reduce these trips to the vet and added procedures. His quality of life would improve so, so much and I truly think surgery is the way to go. He has so much life left and I want to give him the best chances I can to have a happy, healthy, and comfortable rest of his life. There is only so much these frequent procedures and medications can do, and without surgery, his condition will worsen to the point that the only humane option would be to end his suffering. He wants a fighting chance. This surgery can give him that and will completely alter his quality of life to one of comfort and healthiness.
